Shades for Shelters® - January Donations
Every month we detail how Big Bear gives back with our Shades for Shelters® program, we pledge 20% of net proceeds towards animal rescues and shelters in the United States.
We kicked off Big Bear Sunglasses in late December, we've made some new friends and sold some shades, but we haven't quite turned a profit. We didn't let that stop us from helping where we could. In total Big Bear donated $381.96 to rescue organizations in the month of January, it's not much but we do what we can.
If you follow us on Facebook you'll have seen the pinned post we've had up for almost a week now, the Friends to the Forlorn Pitbull Rescue, Inc. is a 501(c)3 rescue and community outreach organization based out of Georgia that promotes responsible pitbull ownership, they provide breed education, combat pet overpopulation, fight unfair legislation, find qualified homes for sound pitbull-type dogs and other dogs in need in Georgia, and help people and animals within our community.

I had run across a Facebook post of theirs talking about how they lost some donors for their $5 Friday recurring donations, we quickly sent him enough to at least cover the few donor subscriptions that had lapsed.
Total Donation $50
Also through Facebook, the Naperville Area Humane Society put out a post with an urgent request. The Naperville Area Humane Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit limited admission animal shelter for dog and cat adoption, foster care, and owner surrenders serving the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois.
It was a long list, we couldn't buy everything but we did what we could.
Full disclosure, we did use an Amazon gift card balance for part of this donation. I don't think the dogs are going to mind though.
Total Donation $331.96

Why do we share this information? Because accountability matters, we do what we do because we care and we genuinely want to make a difference in the lives of shelter animals, the people that care for those animals and the ones who eventually adopt and take them home.
